As we get closer to spring break, I’m using #TBT to highlight my reviews that would make spring break destinations. It’s time to get planning! Planning your spring break travels? I’ve created an itinerary for a Civil Rights Road Trip through key historical sites in Alabama and Georgia that would make a great trip during the spring. You can hit the major historical sites along with some kid-friendly fun in less than a week! What Civil Rights historical site have you visited? Link below and in bio. #thehistorymom #historytravel #familytravel #auburnopelika #experiencemontgomery #INBirmingham #DiscoverATL February begins tomorrow, and when I think of romantic literature, I automatically think of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. One of my favorite quotes from the play is, “My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.” Such a lovely sentiment as we move into the month of love! In my #BookingItThroughHistory First Ladies focus, I read several books in January about Martha Washington. Whether fiction or nonfiction, they all gave me great insight into our original First Lady and her extraordinary life. When I was in fifth grade, I wanted more than anything to become an astronaut. I would have loved visiting an amazing museum like the Udvar-Hazy National Air and Space Museum near Dulles Airport. On this #TBT, I want to highlight my review of the museum, which includes an actual space shuttle! It will inspire your little budding astronaut and provide hours of educational entertainment. It’s one of my family’s favorite museums! #airandspacemuseum Martha Washington is the original First Lady. From her childhood in New Kent, Virginia to her married life which took her hundreds of miles from her home at Mount Vernon, she was a gracious and charming woman who endured tragedy, war, and political battles to become the devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and first lady that we revere. Read all about her life, legacy, and my time spent traveling in Martha’s footsteps in today’s Booking It Through History: First Ladies blog post (link below and in bio). Plus I detail my favorite books, podcasts, TV shows, and other media about Martha. She was a true pioneer! My travels today took me in the footsteps of Martha Washington, spending time in her birthplace, New Kent County, Virginia. From the birthplace marker at the courthouse to the adorable restaurant named after her, @marthaskitchenofnk, to Martha’s home church, it was a day full of history. Check out my post tomorrow for more places where you can walk in the footsteps of the original First Lady! #historytravel #marthawashington #firstladieshistory I’m a Ruta Sepetys completist. I’ve read all of her excellent YA historical fiction books and have loved all five of them. This latest release, I Must Betray You, is tied with Salt to the Sea for my favorite! Just steps from the museum housing the Liberty Bell in Independence National Historical Park lies the ruins of the President’s House where George and Martha Washington lived while Philadelphia served as the nation’s temporary capital. I’ve learned so much about their time spent in this house during my #BookingItThroughHistory First Ladies project, so on this #TBT, I want to highlight one of my very first posts about this important historical site. My kids will never forget seeing the big crack in the Liberty Bell or standing in the very spot where the Declaration of Independence was approved. The thought-provoking exhibits focusing on slavery at the President’s House shouldn’t be missed as well. Historic Philadelphia is a history lover’s dream destination! Link below and in bio.
