It’s the first Tuesday of June, and there are so many great books coming out this month! What’s your most anticipated June release? #historymomreads #bookstagram #junereleases #newreleases #histfic If you loved Downton Abbey, you must read The Castle Keepers by Aimie K. Runyan, J’nell Ciesielski, and Rachel McMillan. Set at an atmospheric English castle that holds one family’s secrets through the generations, this multi-timeline historical fiction novel covers relatively unknown parts of the Gilded Age, WWI, and WWII - the lingering effects of war after soldiers return home to their families. I was captivated by all of the storylines and went down a research rabbit hole! After our trip to England last year where we stayed right beside a beautiful castle (pictured), I could just imagine these stories coming to life among its stone walls and fragrant gardens. Check out my full review on @austenprose to learn even more about this unique novel (link in bio and below). #historymomreads #bookstagram #TheCastleKeepers #AimieKRunyan #JnellCiesielski #RachelMcMillan #HarperMuse In my quest to read about Elizabeth Monroe in May, I had a hard time finding any books dedicated to her. Since James Monroe destroyed all of their correspondence and her journals after she died, there is a dearth of primary source material for authors and biographers. Today is the fourth anniversary of The History Mom! I started the blog in 2019, hoping to encourage families to visit historical sites and to share my love of reading books about history. Over 200+ blog posts later, I still love compiling the reviews and choosing new sites to visit. I hope it’s been helpful to you! My new Booking It Through History: First Ladies post is about the elegant yet reserved Elizabeth Monroe. Wife to our fifth president, James Monroe, little is known about this First Lady, but once you learn more about her, you’ll appreciate her legacy of style that is still used in the White House today. Plus her bravery in saving the wife of the Marquis de Lafayette during the French Revolution is commendable! Read all about her and how you can walk in her footsteps in my new post (link in bio and below). #thehistorymom #bookingitthroughhistory #firstladyhistory #ElizabethMonroe #JamesMonroe #presidentialhistory Happy publication day to After Anne by Logan Steiner, a must-read for any Anne of Green Gables fan. A biographical historical fiction novel about the incomparable Lucy Maud Montgomery, the book weaves Montgomery’s written words with her actual life events in a multi-timeline plot spread over her adult life. It’s a heartbreaking tale but one that makes her writing even more poignant. How could someone who had so many personal troubles write such hopeful characters like Anne and Emily? Characters embedded in the hearts of millions who read about their escapades and are captivated by their charm. Characters that have endured over a century as generation upon generation of girls saw themselves in Anne’s inner turmoil and Emily’s writerly angst. Happy Memorial Day. May we never forget those who gave so much for our freedom. One of the most memorable places we’ve taken our kids on a summer vacation is Pompeii, Italy. If you have a summer trip planned to Italy, be sure to put Pompeii on your itinerary! It’s a doable day trip from Rome and is well worth the time and effort! Link in bio and below. #TBT #historytravel #familytravel #pompeii #italy With Memorial Day weekend coming up, it’s the perfect time to get your summer reading TBR list ready! Check out the books releasing this summer that I’m excited to read. From poignant historical fiction to serious history nonfiction to light contemporary reads, there’s something for everyone on my list (link in bio and below)! What’s your most anticipated book coming out this summer? #historymomreads #bookstagram #newbooks #summerreadingguide #summerreads #summerreading #histfic
