Reading Challenge Update – September 2026

In my reflections on my 2025 reading, I put together a challenge to help me keep on track with the goals I have for my reading.

I am not trying to be perfect with the challenge and just see it as a way to ensure I am focused on what I want to read! Each month, I will do a recap on the blog.

Here’s how I did in September. To read reviews of all of these books, check out my Goodreads!

I am going to San Francisco in October and knew I wanted to get to this book that had been sitting on my Kindle for five years! I loved learning more about early 20th century society in the lead up to the big earthquake. And the parts about women who were institutionalized were so horrific. It’s a very vivid book!

This was a delightful murder mystery taking place in the Cleveland White House with First Lady Frances “Frank” Cleveland and former First Lady Julia Grant teaming up to solve the crime – along with the help of Julia’s daughter, Nellie. I really enjoyed it!

Allison is definitely a favorite author – I love all of her books about unknown women from history. I think this one about Peggy Shippen Arnold is the most unbelievable – but it’s all true! Peggy was such a character, and I loved learning more about her treachery that led to her husband’s downfall.

I am quickly becoming a super fan of these books! I had never thought how the time periods of 1861, 1941, and 2001 were linked, and I thought Meyer did such a good job with the story connecting all three. I can’t wait for book three!

I am rereading Outlander in anticipation of a summer trip to Scotland. It draws you in from the beginning! And I trying to read it on audio as well as in print for a different reading experience!

My son is reading this for school, so I thought I would join him. The premise and language is something we all know, but I had never read the actual book. It was not for me – and I knew it wouldn’t be since I am not a fan of dystopian novels – but it was eerily prescient. Every American should read it!

This classic was definitely more to my liking! And it’s also so relatable to today’s world. I highly recommend it!

I am still reading this memoir about a woman finding faith while studying at Oxford. It’s perfect for any intellectual skeptics in your life. Hopefully I will finish soon!

I am reading The Bible Is For You slowly along with The Bible Recap (see below).

We finished the Old Testament through The Bible Recap! Today is the first day of reading in the New Testament so it’s a great time to join. Click here to learn how!

Do you have any reading goals for 2026? I’d love to hear about them!
